the-uribe-121-new-boat-sunk-for-diving-in-mexico

The moment every scuba diver was waiting for: The first artificial reef theme park in the Pacific is opening its doors, and you can now experience the best wreck diving in Mexico.

The Uribe 121 is the first of four ships that will be part of the Parque Submarino Rosarito. It will sink on late November to give life to new marine life and transform into an artificial reef and a unique submarine adventure.

The day of the sinkage –which is still to be confirmed– there will be a ceremony and a protocol act that will be private but also public, as it will be transmitted live through Tv Azteca. Some tourist destinations, like the Puerto Nuevo Hotel located on the Tijuana-Ensenada Freeway, will be celebrating an open-air festival with local food trucks you cannot miss. Food and fun? Yes, please!

The event will also be visible from different points of the freeway: an 11 miles-stretch going from Puerto Nuevo to the La Jolla del Mar condos, located on Popotla Boulevard. You can go ahead and park your car as you step out to watch the detonation that will sink the Uribe 121 to a depth of 95 ft, just around 1.2 miles away from the Rosarito shore.

And last but not least, there is another option to watch the sinkage: by renting a boat you will be able to admire the spectacle off-shore from a secure perimeter and under the supervision of Mexican authorities. The boats will be available for rent at the park but you can also bring your own and witness the historical event at no cost.

Please take into account that safety is first, which is why there won’t be access to the ship immediately after its sinkage.

After the ceremony, a team of divers will go down to make sure all of the explosives went off; they will inspect the ship and, later on, the first immersion will be made by the Divers Association of Baja California. The rest of us will have to wait at least a day to go underwater, but don’t worry, we assure you the wait will be worth it.

If you are interested in scuba diving but don’t know who to contact, please visit the Rosarito Ocean Sports website and Baja Diving Adventures –one of the companies that will be offering the diving service at the park–.
